I am a freelance journalist and have been based in Istanbul since October 2012. I cover the region for Spanish newspaper El País and contribute to other media, most recently the Independent, AFP, Al Jazeera and Austrian newspaper Der Standard.
Before moving here I covered Sub Saharan Africa for El País between September 2011 and September 2012. Before this, I was the East African correspondent of the Spanish news agency Efe from January to September 2010.
In between, I travelled the region and wrote for international media like IRIN and Jane’s and, in Spanish, Periodismo Humano, Foreign Policy and Radio France International.
In July 2012, my feature ‘A la horca con 14 años’ (‘To the gallows at 14’) won the Dario D’Angelo award of the Marco Luchetta Foundation.
